On Saturday, October
13th, Turkish-American community got together at Grand Plaza Hotel's Sam Houston
Ballroom to celebrate the Eid (Bayram). Around 1000 attended and imam Mustafa
Yigit recited verses from Quran beautifully and delivered his moving sermon both
in English and in Turkish as well. Festivities followed by a delicious breakfast
on site and all children present were gifted by being invited to the stage.
Many
"bayram" traditions were also cherished, such as door to door visit of children
for candy and money, visiting elderly and each other in the houses at the
expense of having stomach ache from all the sweets and baklava that was
consumed.
